Deutsche Bank has appointed Pamela Root as its new global head of compliance and group chief compliance officer, replacing Nadine Faruque.

Faruque decided to quit the German banking group in March 2016 due to personal reasons.

Root, who will be based in London, will report to the bank’s chief regulatory officer and management board member Sylvie Matherat.

Most recently, Root served as the chief compliance officer for the global institutional clients group at Citigroup.

Before her stint at Citigroup, she worked at Goldman Sachs, where she held several legal and compliance roles including the general counsel to global compliance.

Prior to Goldman Sachs, she worked as a lawyer at Sullivan & Cromwell in New York, where she practised securities, banking and corporate law.

In addition, the bank has appointed Peter Hazlewood as its new global head of anti-financial crime and group money-laundering reporting officer.

Hazlewood will replace Ulrich Göres, who decided to depart from the bank at the end of January 2016. He will join in the new role in July 2016, and will be based in Frankfurt. He will report to Sylvie Matherat.

"Robust and effective controls are essential to our business practice. Compliance and AFC are key functions to ensure that we manage our business activities to high standards at all times. I am very pleased that with Pamela Root and Peter Hazlewood we are gaining two widely respected and very experienced experts to head these important functions," Matherat said.
