Westpac is, reportedly, planning to provide "opt in" services using Google Glass at its branches in Australia and New Zealand.
Expected to be launched later this year, Google Glass which is a spectacle-like wearable computer and Apple’s iBeacon technology are likely to enable businesses to install transmitters that can inform their presence to nearby smartphones.
Westpac chief digital officer Simon Pomeroy was quoted by interest.co.nz as saying that the customers using Google Glass would be able to see their bank balances, transfer money between Westpac accounts, find the closest Westpac ATM or branch, and get alerts or notifications.
According to Westpac, the latest Google Glass will be equipped with voice activated feature, which will work either through a smartphone or via wireless internet.
Pomeroy said that the "opt in service for customers" would allow them to perform potential services including bill payments.
Westpac is currently piloting iBeacon in its Britomart, Auckland central branch, and is looking at launching the technology to all its branches over the next one year.
