US Bank, the fifth-largest bank in the US by assets, has partnered with technology vendor Mitek to release a mobile app enabling customers to make bill payments by taking a photo of their bill with their smartphone or tablet.

According to Mitek, Mobile Photo Bill Pay eliminates the need to manually enter payment information and allows customers to quickly add a new payee to their online bill pay, pay one-time or non-recurring bills and set up recurring bills and payments.

Niti Badarinath, senior vice president and leader of US Bank’s mobile banking channel said: "We continue to leverage the capabilities of smartphones and use innovative ways of making banking more convenient for our customers.

"US Bank customers were among the first in the nation to be able to use their mobile device to deposit checks and we have now made it easier for our customers to enrol and pay bills whenever and wherever they choose."
