Samsung Electronics Canada has announced that Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) personal payment cards are now supported by Samsung Pay, offering the mobile payment platform to Canadians

The availability of Samsung Pay across Canada has continued to expand, and this latest partnership with RBC follows on from existing Samsung Pay partners that include CIBC, Scotiabank, ATB Financial and Visa Canada.

Canadian consumers are continually looking to their banking and smartphone provides to offer more seamless and efficient payment experiences.

In 2016, 29% of Canadians actively used their smartphone to make mobile payments, while 74% of mobile payers state they would like to see reward programmes and mobile wallets integrated to ensure they can redeem rewards points immediately.

On its site, Samsung Pay lays out three steps detailing its mobile payments platform, that offers consumers a harmonious mobile payment experience.

  1. Simple: To make a payment on Samsung Pay, consumers can simply swipe up, scan their fingerprint, iris or input their four-digit PIN, and tap to pay.
  2. More Secure: Samsung Pay uses three different levels of security to enable more secure payments – fingerprint or iris authentication, tokenisation and Samsung Knox, Samsung’s defence-grade mobile security platform.
  3. Widely Accepted: Users can pay almost anywhere you can tap or swipe your card.

The popular mobile payment system is available in 20 countries around the world and supports debit and credit cards from more than 870 global and regional banks.

Samsung Pay is compatible with a variety of Samsung smartphones including, Galaxy S9 and S9+, Galaxy Note8; Galaxy S8 and S8+; Galaxy S7 and S7 edge; Galaxy S6, S6 edge, and S6 edge+; Galaxy Note5, Galaxy A8 and Galaxy A5.
