Dutch bank Rabobank is planning a full roll out of NFC in the Netherlands with G&D next year.

Customers in the Netherlands will be able to apply for a virtual card, which will be sent directly to their smartphone, allowing them to make payments in stores with NFC enabled POS terminals. G&D will enable the card credentials to be delivered to the customer’s phone.

Jeroen Verrijdt, director of payments and savings at Rabobank Nederland, said: "At Rabobank we see a steep increase in the use of smartphones for payments in the Netherlands.

"We already have more daily users of mobile banking than we have for internet banking. We plan to follow our customers in these developments and want to focus on smartphone developments as in mobile NFC payments."

Rabobank was previously part of Sixpack, a mobile wallet collaboration between it, ABN Amro, ING, KPN, and Vodafone. However the group broke apart last July, blaming cost and timing problems.

Rabobank debuted its NFC system in Leiden this September.
