HSBC Bank USA has deployed its social humanoid robot ‘Pepper’ at its retail branch in Miami’s Brickell neighbourhood.
The deployment, carried out in collaboration with SoftBank Robotics America (SBRA), is the first in the state of Florida.

Pepper will assist the branch customers with basic product information and availability of self-service banking options. They can also ask relevant questions to identify customer requirements and notify the bank staff accordingly.
The deployment of the HSBC Bank robots is expected to reduce customer waiting time and facilitate branch business. It will also enable the bankers to deliver a more personalised service.
HSBC head of retail banking and wealth management in US and Canada Pablo Sanchez said: “Miami’s tech scene is experiencing positive growth and we see a lot of opportunity for disruption in the region.
“Our customers in South Florida will have a chance to experience an entirely new way of banking thanks to Pepper. It’s an exciting next step for us as we continue to expand the number of branches that have these capabilities.”

The bank also noted an increase in new business with more than 25,000 total customer interactions with Pepper.
