Citigroup has promoted the interim fintech head Yolande Piazza as the new permanent head of the unit.
Yolande Piazza had been serving in the role on an interim basis since August 2016, when the previous CEO of Citi FinTech, Heather Cox, left the firm for a role with USAA.
Piazza has been working with Citi for about 30 years. She has held numerous technology leadership roles, including chief operating officer of Citi FinTech.
Piazza will spearhead the group’s efforts in mobile, payments, and general fintech innovation.
In a memo, Stephen Bird, the CEO of Citi's global consumer bank, praised Piazza’s contributions since she took over as interim CEO of the fintech unit.
Bird said: “As many of you know, Yo has been leading the team on an interim basis for the last few months. Under her leadership, we successfully launched a new set of features for U.S. Retail Bank clients that make us the first global bank to integrate banking and wealth management on mobile — epitomizing ‘playing to win’.
“Client feedback is terrific, colleagues have a powerful platform for engagement, reengineered processes are reducing costs and improving speed, and the team has established itself as a trusted partner with the businesses.”
