Oman-based BankDhofar has unveiled its plans to open additional six branches of Maisarah Islamic banking services across the country by the end of 2014.

BankDhofar also appointed Oman’s football player Ali Al Habsi as Maisarah’s brand ambassador.

Maisarah chief Islamic banking officer, Sohail Niazi, said last year they offered their services through their two branches in Azaiba and Salalah.

"To fulfill the needs of market, we are opening our third branch in Sohar this month followed up by another three branches by the end of this year," Niazi added.

According to BankDhofar, Oman has recently entered into Islamic finance business and has already reported significant developments.

Niazi said several Islamic windows and two banks have been established here, the MSM Sharia index was created to track Sharia-compliant stocks.

"The first corporate sukuk was issued, the Takaful Company was launched, and recently the announcement that a sovereign sukuk may be issued," Niazi added.

Ali al Habsi said Islamic banking services are unique addition to the national economy, which might become one of the most important pillars of their economy in the coming years.
