The United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) second-largest bank by assets, National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD), has selected BT to link up its 12 international branches with its data centre in the region.

The project is part of NBAD’s goal to centralise its core banking services at the banks headquarters in the UAE.

Kevin Taylor, president Asia, Middle East and Africa & president Global Logistics, said "The National Bank of Abu Dhabi is a customer with a great global pedigree and we are proud to have been chosen to run their regional and global networking infrastructure.

"This deal is a clear sign of the trust global financial players put in our expertise. It also further consolidates our position as the networked IT services provider of choice for financial institutions in the Middle East and beyond."

Hossam El Kobrosy, director, IT Infrastructure at NBAD, said "Already one of the leading banks in the UAE, NBAD’s vision is to be the world’s best Arab bank. To realize this vision we are committed to provide our customers with the best services, understand their needs, and dedicate all our energies to serving them."

El Kobrosy added: "We want to continue to be the bank of choice for our customers around the world and the contract with BT will cement our position as a leading global bank with the best and most secure connectivity for our operations."
