Turkey-based Yapi Kredi
is introducing the first talking ATM and point of sale (POS)
devices in Turkey in advance of World Sight Day on 3
December.

Yapi Kredi’s talking ATM
and POS service is part of the bank’s corporate social
responsibility initiative called “Unlimited Banking”, which began
in 2008.

The bank said that
visually impaired people – both Yapi Kredi customers and non
customers – will become more independent and not have rely on help
when withdrawing money or checking their balance as a result of the
initiative.

The pilot ATM will be
placed at a branch in Istanbul’s busy district Kadikoy, while the
POS devices will be initially available at 50 places.

The bank said that it
aims to expand the service to more branches in 2011 and added that
the options available on the talking ATM will also increase in the
next year.
