Digital money transfer provider Xoom has released an upgraded version of mobile money transfer app that enables its customers to send money from their mobile devices to friends and family members immediately.

The upgraded version will enable customers to sign up and send money to new as well as existing recipients using iOS or Android mobile devices.

The mobile money transfer app, which was initially unveiled in June 2013, allowed Xoom repeat customers to send money to their existing recipients. To send to new recipients, users are required to furnish details of funds, recipients, and mode of payment.

Customers can use the app to track the status of their money transfer, review Xoom’s low fees, check exchange rates, contact customer service, and access links to other Xoom services.

Xoom processed $1.5bn in mobile volume in the 12 months ended 31 March 2014, and during the first quarter of 2014, nearly 45% of Xoom transactions were sent through mobile devices.

Xoom product vice president Joe Raymond said, "The App upgrade presents a tremendous opportunity for Xoom."
