Sparkasse Harburg-Buxtehude, one Germany’s 431 savings banks,
has signed an agreement with self-service vendor Wincor Nixdorf to
take over the cash management of its ATM service for the next five
years.

The contract will reduce costs for the bank by 20%, according to
a statement from Wincor Nixdorf.

Wincor first took over the operation of Sparkasse’s services in
April 2008, but in the second phase of the firms’ agreement, the
technology vendor will manage the cash services of the bank’s 271
self-service systems.

The contract allows the bank to concentrate on its core business
and “pursue the sale of high-value products”, the vendor
said.

The vendor said the move was in line with “significantly
expanding” its solution for cash management at banks.

It said in February, that it was looking to expand its business
into the mobile banking and consultancy sector (see RBI 626).
