VTB has announced plans to implement Russian internet company Mail.ru Group’s Tarantool platform into its infrastructure in an effort to enhance the speed and quality of customer services.

The Tarantool platform enables fast processing of data in RAM, with the capacity to withstand a load of up to a million calls per second.

As a result, it would help accelerate the work of VTB Online’s key services as well as CRM systems.

Mail.ru Cloud Solutions and Tarantool platform head Ilya Letunov said: “Most large companies are based on information systems that were developed more than ten years ago. They are not designed for modern loads.

“At the same time, businesses are increasingly turning to tools for digital interaction with customers – applications, personal accounts, online services, online stores. Tarantool creates an additional layer between corporate systems and user services, speeding up the launch of applications and reducing the cost of their maintenance.”

Under the agreement, the Russian lender will leverage Tarantool Data Grid and Tarantool Enterprise.

These are said to help the bank store data and generate tailored offers and notifications for customers in real time.

Mail.ru Group specialists will offer technical support. The bank also said that the educational programme created for it will support the development of its own technological know-how and create a VTB competence centre for working with Tarantool.

VTB Infrastructure Development Department head Vladimir Dergachev said: “VTB, as part of its strategy aimed at 100% availability of online financial services, continues to introduce a large number of new products and services, which leads to an increase in the load on IT systems.

“The use of domestic products and services for storing and processing data in RAM, developed by Mail.ru Group, will help VTB maintain and increase the quality and reliability of our products and services for customers, which is a priority for VTB. ”

Last year, the bank completed the first stage of deploying its new Data Governance management system to expedite business analysis processes.
