China’s UnionPay International (UPI) has forged a partnership with Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) to enable contactless payments across the UAE.

Under this partnership, UnionPay has enabled its card and contactless payments on ADIB’s 15,000 near-field communications (NFC) terminals in the Kingdom.

These terminals are installed at several businesses including hospitals, hotels, government, supermarkets and others.

UnionPay has been pushing for contactless and online payments solutions around the world, to protect customers amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The Islamic lender’s all point-of-sale (POS) terminals are enabled with contactless payment service.

The services include contactless payment through UnionPay chip cards and Mobile QuickPass payment interfaces such as Apple Pay, and Huawei Pay.

Earlier this month, Australian supermarket chain Coles Group partnered with UnionPay to provide its customers with a new payment method.

Last month, UnionPay rolled out QR code-based payment facility for its merchant clients in Australia and New Zealand.
