State Bank of India (SBI) is planning to launch a new mobile wallet service, called Batua, in December 2015 for java-enabled feature phone users.
Available for both SBI and non-SBI customers, the service will be used to only load, pay and receive money.
Customers can avail the service by logging into sbi.co.in and download Batua on their desktop and load the app on their phone.
Additionally, the bank is planning to launch another version of the Batua app for basic phones, in which internet access functionality is not available.
Also, the bank aims to focus on using Instant Messaging service to allow customers to pay and receive money.
In August 2015, SBI has launched an app called ‘SBI Buddy’ for smartphone users, in partnership with Accenture and MasterCard. It allows customers to load money on wallet, and use it for paying bills, transferring money and making purchases on online.
