Tencent Cloud has joined forces with Ryt Bank in Malaysia to support a banking service that allows users to make everyday payments through conversational commands.

Ryt Bank is using Tencent Cloud Chat (IM) as the basis for real-time communication, with the system handling AI instructions and transaction details for users in Malaysia.

The bank’ s model is centred on reducing the number of steps in routine banking tasks through a “Zero User Interface (Zero-UI)” approach.

Under that model, processes that would usually require several stages can be completed through a single instruction.

Tencent Cloud technology is based on the same messaging system used across Tencent’s wider ecosystem, which it said serves more than 1 billion monthly active users and handles more than 550 billion messages a day at peak levels.

According to the companies, the system was tested on the day Ryt Bank launched, when the platform dealt with a jump in traffic from 50,000 active users without downtime.

Tencent Cloud International Southeast Asia regional director Singapore & Malaysia general manager Kenneth Siow said: ”Southeast Asia is a key hub for digital innovation, and we are proud to support ambitious pioneers like Ryt Bank in creating a future-forward banking experience.

“This collaboration highlights our commitment to empower local businesses in Malaysia and across the region to build the next generation of services by providing the robust and high-speed infrastructure they need to create enhanced customer experiences.”

Ryt Bank said that more than seven months after launch it has passed 1.2 million users. It added that close to half of its customers are using Ryt AI, its main AI-based feature.

Ryt AI was developed with YTL AI Labs and built on ILMU, described as Malaysia’s sovereign AI model.

Tencent Cloud Chat (IM) service includes end-to-end encryption and message auditing to support traceability and banking compliance requirements. The company network includes more than 3,200 acceleration edge nodes and localised infrastructure to support lower-latency performance.

The platform supports Malay, English and Chinese, which the companies said helps Ryt Bank serve users across Malaysia.

Ryt Bank interim CEO Wilson Soon said: ”Our mission is to empower Malaysians to drive intelligent, AI-powered banking, delivering smarter, faster finance and real impact for all. Tencent Cloud has been a strategic partner in achieving this goal.

“The Tencent Cloud Chat (IM) feature was straightforward to integrate, providing the stable, low-latency communication required to handle high-concurrency transactions smoothly, which is fundamental to our growth and our ability to strengthen customer trust.”
