Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), a lender headquartered in Toronto, has enhanced its mobile app with two new value-added functionalities.

One of these features will enable users to lock and unlock their debit card from their mobile phone.

The feature can be availed by personal banking customers.

Purchases and ATM transactions will be blocked once the card is locked.

However, this will not disrupt pre-authorised and mobile wallet transactions.

RBC had earlier launched a similar feature for credit cards.

At the same time, the bank’s customers can now add a new bill payee by taking a photo of their bill or uploading their e-bill.

Both personal as well as business clients can avail this feature.

Commenting on the upgrades, RBC senior vice president of digital Peter Tilton said: “We’re doing more to deliver on our promise to innovate where it matters most and use technology that helps our clients in their everyday lives.

“Mobile is now our primary digital channel and that’s in large part because we understand common pain points and work hard to create simple and convenient solutions to improve the banking experience, and make life’s to-do list a bit easier to manage.”

RBC’s mobile app can be accessed by iOS and Android users.
