BNP Paribas and Orange have jointly launched retail mobile banking services in Africa, in a bid to enable the bank’s customers to complete real-time banking operations using their Orange Money account.

Currently available at Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), the new service eliminates physical branch visits, and also gives banking customers direct access between BNP Paribas account and Orange Money account through their mobile phones.

In addition, the users can transfer money to their Orange Money account directly from their BNP Paribas bank account, or vice versa, simply, quickly and securely.

This flexibility in transferring money between bank accounts and mobile accounts will make it easier to use the services already provided by Orange Money, such as payment for goods and services including water, electricity and television bills, and purchases of airtime credit.

The French lender said that the large network of licensed Orange Money distributors will complement the network of its branches. These Orange Money distributors will provide a maximum number of cash withdrawal points to all customers, particularly in more remote areas.

BNP Paribas international retail banking branch retail director François Benaroya said that the agreement gives Orange Money customers access to new banking services such as savings account, international bank card, etc.

Benaroya further added that the service will also offer its customers access to an extensive withdrawal/deposit network and the possibility of paying bills or buying telephone credit from their mobile phones.
