OCBC Bank has enabled its mobile banking customers in Malaysia to use facial biometric technology for authentication.

Dubbed OCBC OneLook, the new service enables customers to access their account balances and transactional activities simply by looking at their mobile device.

The service can be availed by users of iPhone X. Users of the recently-launched iPhone XS, XS Max and XR models can also access the service.

To use the new service, customers need to conduct a one-time activation on iPhone X’s mobile banking app with Apple’s Face ID running on iOS12.1.

In order to access the service, customers need to tap on the OCBC OneLook icon on the app’s login screen and then look at their mobile phone.

OCBC Bank head of consumer financial services Lim Wyson said: “We are ever on the lookout for new ways to deliver a simpler, more secure and superior banking experience to our customers.

“By leveraging on Apple’s Face ID facial recognition technology we are enabling our customers to dispense with passwords or even fingerprints when doing their everyday banking on our Mobile Banking app.”

The new service follows on the launch of OCBC OneTouch. Launched two years ago, the app utilises Apple’s Touch ID technology to authenticate the bank’s customers using fingerprint recognition technology.
