Around 30% Bulgarians have been found to perform banking transactions using their mobile phones, an increase from 2% four years ago, according to FOCUS News Agency based on an analysis of UniCredit Bulbank.

The analysis showed that mobile banking is replacing traditional bank services not only in the country but on a global scale.

Currently there are 6.8 billion mobile devices across the world and most of the payments are made online.

UniCredit Bulbank retail banking division head, Tsvetanka Mincheva, was quoted by the news agency as saying that clients will make regular transactions remotely, while consultations will mostly take place in offices.

UniCredit Bulbank alternative channels division head, Yulian Vlahov, said until now, Bulgarians have mostly used mobile services to check their account balance, but they will soon have the opportunity to pay utility bills through their smartphone.

Vlahov assured customers that online payments are safe as they require a personal PIN code and an ID password generated by bank server to process the transactions.
