UK challenger Metro Bank has enhanced the functionality of its mobile banking channel, enabling customers to set up a new payee via its m-banking app.

The new functionality is designed to increase customer choice when it comes to managing payments, whether online, over the phone, in store or through the updated app.

Metro Bank’s app users can now can set up a new payee in five steps: input new payee details; enter digits from card number; enter a onetime SMS passcode; confirm passcode on app and the new payee set-up is complete.

Craig Donaldson, CEO at Metro Bank commented: “We know how important banking-on-the-go is, and we’re finding that more people than ever are choosing to use their banking app as one of the main ways to make payments.

“The ability to set-up a new payee in a couple of taps, is a feature we think will make our customers’ lives even easier and means they’ll be able to make a payment almost immediately. Particularly handy at this time of year when a lot of us are going out and splitting the bill with friends and colleagues, or paying for last minute odd jobs before the family arrives.”
