MasterCard, Gemalto, Garanti and Turkish mobile
phone operator Avea have rolled out an antenna-equipped SIM card
mobile payment service that integrates wireless near field
communication (NFC).

The partners said that Turkey was the first
country to offer NFC-compatible mobile phones that feature an
N-flex SIM card and a flexible NFC antenna.

The NFC mobile payment solution is supported by
MasterCard’s PayPass technology and will be promoted by
BonusluAvea, the reward scheme of the mobile operator, and
Garanti.

Garanti currently has over a million card
holders across Turkey signed up to Trink, the bank’s contactless
service.

The partners said they wanted to extend PayPass
enabled, contactless transactions to mobile phones.

Gemalto’s the executive vice president, secure
transactions business unit, Philippe Cambriel, said:
Going mobile is the natural next step in the way people
conduct payments, and Gemalto‘s N-Flex provides the technology
bridge to realize this evolution.”

transport ticketing and access to sports stadiums.

But the bank said that it wants to extend the
contactless transactions to other traditionally cash-dependent
services, such as vending machines and for the Istanbul KGS
toll.

receive digital coupons on their phones to earn instant discounts
and gifts.
