IBM has patented a fraud prevention technology that enables online and cloud-based businesses to abolish fraud by analyzing browsing behavior of users and the way they interact with websites to recognize suspicious transactions.

The new app is suitable for web site operators, cloud service providers and mobile application developers, as they can more efficiently and effectively detect and deal with threats by using analytics to thwart fraudsters, claims IBM.

The company said that its invention assists businesses analyze and identify sudden changes in online behavior and as soon as the app detects a change in behavior, it triggers a secondary authentication measure, such as a security question.

This enables businesses and website operators avoid unintentional and obtrusive legitimate customer activities or transactions.

IBM Master Inventor and co-inventor on the patent Keith Walker said, "Our invention improves the effectiveness of authentication and security systems with insights derived from real-time data analytics."

IBM has received US Patent #8,650,080: "User-browser interaction-based fraud detection system" for the invention.
