British banking giant HSBC is set to introduce voice recognition and fingerprint ID security services in the UK that will allow customers to access accounts without the requirement of a password.
The touch ID service can be accessed on all Apple mobile devices by customers of HSBC and its online banking unit First Direct.
Nuance Communications will supply the voice biometrics technology, which will function by cross-checking against various identifiers such as speed, cadence and pronunciation, among others.
According to HSBC UK head of retail banking and wealth management Francesca McDonagh, the move represents "the largest planned rollout of voice biometric security technology in the UK".
"The launch of voice and touch ID makes it even quicker and easier for customers to access their bank account, using the most secure form of password technology – the body," McDonagh added.
The services will be first rolled out to First Direct customers over the next few weeks, followed by HSBC customers in mid-2016.
