Austria-based Erste Group Bank has launched its PSD2-ready digital banking platform, George, in Slovakia.

George, which has been developed by Erste Group Bank’s in-house fintech team, is an open platform, with API-based architecture and plug-in infrastructure.

George enables every user to create their very own version of George, customise to their specific banking needs. Customers can view, sort and organise the information that George provides them regarding their spending, savings, investments and payment transfers.

Customers can, for instance, rename banking products and accounts, drag and drop account components together to create new groups, and toggle between seeing items in either a list or “card” view as per their preference.

George also allows users to pick from a broad range of plug-ins. These include a seven-year account archive, a Remember2Pay function for upcoming bills, in addition to “Watchdogs” that alert users when events that they have specified take place.

Erste Group chief retail officer Peter Bosek said: “We’re convinced the future of banking will be built around platforms – and PSD2 will accelerate this. Since the very beginning, we’ve approached George with an open innovation mindset that allows us to form new partnerships with third parties and add value to our customers.

“So the current ‘platformification’ trend is totally playing to our strengths: our ambition is to build the iTunes store of European finance.”

After Slovakia, Erste plans to roll out George in Romania, Hungary, Croatia and Serbia by the end of the year.
