Taiwanese lender E. SUN Commercial Bank has deployed NEC Corporation’s facial recognition system in five ATMs.

The biometric system, delivered by NEC Taiwan, aims to make ATM transactions more safe and secure.

Biometric ATMs: Details

The biometric ATMs utilises NEC’s facial recognition artificial intelligence (AI) engine called NeoFace. It belongs to the company’s Bio-IDiom portfolio of advanced biometric authentication technologies.

To utilise the service, the customers have to insert their cash cards at the facial recognition-equipped ATMs and have a photo of their face taken.

Subsequently, the users will receive a one-time password at the mobile phones.

The password is required to be entered in the system within 60 seconds to complete the registration process.

Once complete, the E. SUN Commercial Bank customers can withdraw cash by facial recognition and PIN authentication.

Additionally, the biometric ATMs are also equipped with NEC’s AI-enabled anti-spoofing technology to prevent frauds.

The technology is capable of differentiating between the real person and inanimate photo, image or masks.
