Japanese company Dai Nippon Printing (DNP) has selected Gemalto’s solutions to make mobile banking transactions easier.

DNP has started utilising Gemalto’s facial biometric authentication solution ‘Mobile Protector’ to provide secure access to its mobile banking apps.

The solution allows the customers to log on to mobile banking services following successful facial authentication to provide convenient and secure user experience.

Dai Nippon Printing deputy general manager Kunimitsu Sato said: “In Japan, we have seen more and more consumers accessing financial services through their mobile device. But in the meantime, users are also increasingly concerned about security.

“By incorporating Gemalto’s facial recognition, the solution can bolster mobile banking security and provide a mobile authentication method customers love and trust. This should dramatically and significantly increase mobile banking usage.”

Nearly 68% of the banks are expected to deploy facial recognition over the next five years, found Gemalto’s 2017 eBanking Trends.

The survey also found that about 80% of the respondents favoured biometrics as more secure authentication process than the conventional username and password combination.

Gemalto senior vice-president of banking and payment for Asia Michael Au said: “We are pleased to continue our partnership with DNP and help them provide more secure mobile banking transactions.

“Our eBanking Trends research showed that 55% of consumers are willing to use biometric security measures for mobile banking, and banks in Japan can gain a competitive edge by adopting biometric authentication.”
