Deutsche Bank has introduced mobile payments in Germany through its Deutsche Bank Mobile app for Android device users enabled with Near Field Communication (NFC).

In order to use the new service, the customers will have to download the Deutsche Bank Mobile app and install it on their NFC-enabled smartphones running on Android version 4.4 and above.

After that, they need to link their MasterCard-branded debit or credit card and they can make contactless payments by tapping their smartphone against a POS terminal. Once, transaction is closed, a confirmation is displayed immediately. The customer is also informed through their smartphone that a payment has been executed.

No PIN is required for the payments up to €25; however, the users will need to enter a PIN for high value transactions. Users can make payment at six million MasterCard acceptance points across the globe, according to Deutsche Bank.

Deutsche Bank head of cards and payment systems for private and commercial clients, Jan Lisaus, said: “Paying by smartphone is already commonplace in Asia, North America and many European countries such as the UK and Italy.

“We are convinced that it will also become established in Germany. From today, all our clients with an Android smartphone and a Deutsche Bank MasterCard can make mobile payments very easily.”
