Danske unveils flagship Belfast branch, featuring a specially designed co-working space for early stage fintechs.

With the aim of ‘Making more possible’ UK headquartered international design agency I-AM is helping Danske to craft a progressive showcase branch across 895 square metres that will cater for retail banking customers, SMEs and fintech start-ups

The location is Donegall Square West in the heart of Belfast.

The design was conceived by the designers and a dedicated team from Danske, based on feedback from a focus group of Danske customers. The end result is a flexible, innovative and engaging space and set of facilities for customers and fintech start-ups alike.

It includes a range of digital technologies, mixed-use interaction spaces including an event and seminar room and breakout coffee room.

Across a longstanding relationship since 2013, I-AM has worked with Danske in Ulster on a new concept design and rollout strategy for its core branch experiences. The latest flagship incorporates an evolved and upgraded version of the bank’s established branch design.

Danske unveils flagship Belfast branch –‘the future of banking’

The focus of the brief for the co-working space was on developing modern features from co-working spaces and cafes. The aim is to integrate technology that embraces the future of banking.

Allan Scott, Regional Service Manager, Danske Bank UK tells RBI: “We have enjoyed a positive and innovative working relationship with I-AM over the years. This has helped us transform our bank concept from being just another bank among the crown to being the one the crowd aspire to follow.

“When the opportunity came up to refurbish our flagship branch and integrate it seamlessly with the adjoining fintech workspace, we knew we had a great opportunity to deliver something special. I-AM skilfully ascertained our business and customer needs and translated this into our finest bank space to date. T

“he final fulfilment of the brief was passed when the first customer entered the refurbished branch and said ‘Wow’

Peter Champion, I-AM Group Partner and Creative Strategy Director tells RBI:” We are delighted to be the creators of the concept for such a visionary use of this spectacular space.

“Combining future-led features such as fintech co-sorking areas, along with Danske’s heritage, gives a new lease of life to the branch. It shows to banks around the world a new way of thinking about their branches within a digital environment.”

Danske unveils new note design

Danske Bank will launch a polymer £10 note into local circulation in February 2019.

It will be the first time the Bank has introduced such a note since, as Northern Bank, it became the first ever UK bank to issue a ‘plastic’ note in December 1999 to mark the new millennium.

The new polymer £10 note will keep the familiar base design concept of the paper note but with subtle colour and feature upgrades including a revised main portrait of the image on its current paper counterpart – a depiction of inventor John Dunlop.

Born in Scotland in 1840, Mr Dunlop spent most of his career in Ireland and was working from an office on May Street in Belfast when he was credited with developing the first practical pneumatic tyre. He is believed to have been inspired to do this by seeing his young son struggle to ride his tricycle across Belfast’s cobbled streets.
