Danske Bank has introduced a new feature in the Northern Ireland to enable its customers to view their account information from another bank through its mobile banking app.

The new service, which eliminates the need to switch apps, is enabled through open banking technology.

Danske Bank senior manager for open banking David Thompson said: “Many consumers today have more than one bank account.

“Now they can have a clearer view of their finances on just one screen, making it easier to manage their money and saving them time.”

Danske Bank open banking service details:

The new service will enable Danske customers with a personal account with Santander to view their all transactions made through Santander account when they log on to Danske’s New Mobile Bank.

All customers of the bank can set up the new service by choosing their bank from the app’s ‘View all accounts and Cards’ option and selecting the ‘Add Bank’. Once selected, they will be redirected to the Santander’s online site.

The service is available for all customers using Danske’s new mobile banking app on an iOS or Android device.

Benefits of open banking service:

Utilising application programming interfaces (APIs), the open banking technology enables the customers to securely access their all accounts without sharing any confidential details other than their bank.

Thompson added: “The idea behind Open Banking is that it will bring more competition and innovation to financial services which, in turn, is hoped will lead to more and better products to help consumers and businesses manage their money.”

Currently, Barclays is the only other bank in the UK to offer this account aggregation services through the app.
