Commonwealth Bank, an Australian multinational financial services provider, has made its mobile payment technology QkR available to all Australian schools.

Launched in partnership with MasterCard, QkR streamlines payment processing for schools allowing for a low cost entry point in to mobile payments.

Through the app, parents will be able to order meals, contribute to fundraising and pay for school items.

The app is said to allow for improved stock management and increased control over cash flow at the schools who implement the technology.

The technology was initially piloted in 8 schools in Victoria; with the schools experiencing up to 80% of cash payments displaced by QkR in the opening months of roll out.

Nick Aronson, a managing director at Commonwealth bank, said: "CommBank is delighted to launch this global first technology with schools across Australia.

"Throughout the pilot, we’ve seen QkR reduce financial admin and improve the management and planning of volunteer hours," he added.

Victoria Minister for Education, Martin Dixon, supported the introduction of the technology to schools in Victoria during the original pilot.

Dixon commented: "Technology plays an important role in reducing the administrative burden.

"It has allowed our schools to focus on what they do best – educating our future generations.

"I am pleased that Victorian schools led the roll out of this technology in Australia," he added.

Australia was selected as the first market globally to launch the technology and QkR is currently in use within 17 schools across Australia.
