Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) has selected IBM’s Active-Active mainframe technology for continuous availability and disaster recovery.

IBM said that its platform will enable ICBC to make sure 2 TB of fluid account data is real time and accurate.

The Active-Active has the ability to have two different data centers possessing the same application and data simultaneously.

The platform has been deployed in the bank’s Shanghai data centre, which supports global branches in 40 countries and regions across Asia, Europe, America and Oceania.

IBM claims that ICBC downtime has fallen 95%. ICBC has more than 17,000 offices, 4.7 million corporate customers and 432 million individual accounts.

ICBC chief information officer Lin Xiaoxuan said: "ICBC was the first commercial bank to introduce IBM mainframe computer in Mainland China nearly 30 years ago, and since that time each new model of the IBM mainframe has played an important role in all of our IT operations.
