Indian co-operative lender Bharat Bank has partnered with mobile payment app Chillr to enable its clients to instantly transact money to any contact on their phonebook.

The platform, which is available on Android, Windows and iOS operating systems, will directly connect with the customer’s bank account to facilitate money transfer across India after registering on the app.

Chillr, a subsidiary of technology firm MobME, offers an array of features, such as special discounts at specific merchants, recharging prepaid mobile phones, DTH and data cards, splitting of bills between friends/colleagues and running a quick check on one’s account balance.

Bharat Bank managing director and CEO C R Mulky said: "In view of the sweeping changes in the banking industry and customer preferences, we continue to pay special attention to offer easy and secure tech-enabled banking solutions. We are glad to partner with Chillr in achieving this goal."

Chillr founder and CEO Sony Joy said: "India’s internet usage is growing exponentially, with almost 22% of adults having access to World Wide Web. The need for digital banking thus has not been more pronounce and we expect this user base to grow."
