BBVA Compass is to cut up to 600 jobs across the US, primarily at its headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama.

The bank announced on 10 January that after outsourcing some of its back-office banking and real estate lending operations to Accenture and Xerox, it would be reviewing between 400 and 600 positions.

In a statement, BBVA wrote: "A review of job functions, workflow and processes will begin across designated areas next month, part of an analysis to determine where outsourcing opportunities exist.

"These reviews will continue at different times over the next two years."

The bank said in the statement that although most of the job cuts will occur at its Birmingham headquarters, where it has 3,100 employees, the city will remain an important focus of its business.

"Birmingham will maintain its role as an important hub for BBVA Compass, and the city will still be home to nearly a quarter of the bank’s workforce," it said.
