Barclays US Consumer Bank is planning to create over 300 new customer service jobs in collaboration with economic development agency Delaware Prosperity Partnership (DPP).

The bank, in a meeting of the Council on Development Finance (CDF), said that it will create the new jobs at its headquarters in Wilmington city in Delaware, US.

Barclays has been conducting its US consumer business at the Wilmington headquarters since 2004. This site is its preferred choice to expand its business.

The hiring is currently underway for the new positions, which include a host of customer service and operations management roles.

Barclays US Consumer Bank president Denny Nealon said: “We’ve been proud to call Wilmington home for nearly two decades as our US-based consumer business has grown to become a leading credit card issuer and payments company for some of the biggest brands in the country.”

In addition to the new jobs, the company revealed its expansion plan which includes $6.9m funding to redesign the space within the headquarters to accommodate new employees.

Barclays has also been approved for a $2.5m Delaware Strategic Fund, which includes $1.3m in performance grant, $1m in training grant and $207,000 in capital expenditures grant.

These grants will be paid out over a three-year period upon hitting the targets prescribed by CDF.

Delaware governor John Carney said: “The addition of more than 300 new jobs from Barclays is welcome news as we work to bolster our economy from the impact of Covid-19.

“Delaware has a talented and dedicated workforce, an ideal location and quality of life that are second to none.”
