The financial services sector
continues to dominate the Hurun Institute’s ‘Most Valuable Chinese
Brands’ list, providing 20 of the top 100 brands in the 2009
survey.

China Mobile tops the list for the third year
running with a brand value of $29.3 billion, followed by three
banks: ICBC, China Construction Bank and Bank of China.

Agricultural Bank of China (7th) and Bank of
Communication (8th) also featured in the top 10 with China
Merchants Bank (12th) and China Citic Bank (18th) best of the
rest.

The country’s largest insurers China Life and
Ping An were placed 5th and 11th respectively.

“Homegrown Chinese brands are beginning to
take on a life of their own, despite their lack of international
recognition. It is becoming harder for international brands to make
waves in China”, said Hurun’s CEO, Rupert Hoogewerf.
