BankMobile, the first no-fee online and mobile bank in the US, has launched a new technology unit known as BankMobile Technologies.

The new division has been designed to facilitate maintenance and development of new technologies which would broaden its reach in the mobile technology space.

It will be led by Dan Armstrong as chief digital officer and Kirk Barrett as chief technology officer.

In a career spanning 20 years, Armstrong has launched mobile banking and payments in Africa, Asia, Europe and South America, and served as co-founder of the world’s first mobile virtual network operator for a Dutch bank, where he headed mobile banking innovation and conducted 16 nation-wide contactless and mobile payments trials.

Earlier, he also had stints at Aspire Ventures, mBank Philippines, Takashi and Rabo Mobiel.

Barrett has over 25 years of experience in developing enterprise products and large-scale internet applications for public as well as private sector firms.
