Australia’s ANZ Bank is working with ATM manufacturer NCR and credit card provider Visa to equip its national network of ATMs with EMV secure tap and pin technology, with an aim to mitigate card fraud.
Philip Chronican, ANZ CEO Austarlia said that the technology aims to combat card skimming and make banking safer and easier.

It is expected to be rolled out across all ANZ ATMs by the next year.
In the future, the technology will enable near-field communication for authentication and pre-staging transactions at ATMs, using mobile phones or other portable devices.
The lender has also announced the launch of a NFC-enabled mobile wallet app and platform in early 2015, which will be linked to existing cards and accounts of customers.
The contactless mobile payments system will enable secure transfer and storage of a single ANZ card or multiple ANZ cards on customers’ phones, and the cards can be used to transact at contactless terminals.

The device, slated to be rolled out in the first half of next year, comprises a secure pin-entry method, and will connect through the audio-jack port in an iOS or Android device.
