Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ) has named Mark Whelan as the new CEO for its Australian operations.

Whelan will succeed Philip Chronican, who after a 32-year banking career aims to pursue a non-executive career.

Also, the responsibilities of Chronican as global head of retail will now be taken over by ANZ New Zealand CEO David Hisco.

Whelan and Hisco will assume their new roles from 3 April 2015, subject to necessary regulatory approvals.

Whelan is presently designated as managing director global commercial banking, as well as serves as a member of the ANZ management board since October last year.

He formerly served as managing director commercial Australia at ANZ.
