ANZ has enabled its Apple Pay customers to withdraw cash through eftpos using their iPhone or Apple Watch.

The new option can by availed by the bank’s debit cardholders, who can select cheque or savings accounts through eftpos with Apple Pay.

Commenting on the development, eftpos managing director Stephen Benton said: “eftpos research shows payment choice is hugely important to customers and we’re excited ANZ debit cardholders will for the first time have the option to select eftpos to make a transaction from their CHQ or SAV account with Apple Pay.”

Apple Pay does not store the card numbers on the device or on Apple servers. Rather, it assigns a unique device account number that is encrypted and stored in the secure element of the device.

Transactions made via Apple Pay are authenticated through a one-time unique dynamic security code.

ANZ customer engagement lead Kath Bray said: “ANZ is continually looking for ways to improve our customers’ payment experiences and this gives our three million Access Advantage Visa debit cardholders more choice when making payments using Apple Pay.
