Ally Bank, the direct banking subsidiary of the US-based Ally Financial, has released a new mobile app that enables debit cardholders to set control preferences on their debit card-related spending with a touch of smartphone.
The new offering, the Ally Card Controls app, empowers users to instantly turn a debit card on or off, set location aware controls, transaction types, merchant types and amounts with a single touch.
The app can be used by both current and money market account customers with active debit cards and Android or Apple devices.
After logging in to the Ally Bank mobile app and tapping on settings in the main menu, the cardholders can access the card controls.
Users can ‘On/Off’ their card, if it is misplaced or stolen while ‘spend limits’ can help them to set weekly or monthly spend thresholds for transaction amounts.
The app also features a ‘location awareness controls’ facility that allows cardholders to keep their debit card active around their phone, or only within a specified region on a map.
It also has a ‘choose merchant categories and/or transaction types’ facility that allows users to enable or disable specific categories of merchants such as groceries, fuel, entertainment or travel, to control card usage.
Furthermore, cardholders can disable online shopping to avoid unauthorised purchases, and turn it on instantly when required.
