Allied Irish Banks (AIB) has added new features to its mobile banking app. The main feature allows users to open a new current account from their smartphone.
The latest enhancements to the AIB Mobile Banking App are many. It enables new users to join AIB and open their personal current account without visiting physical branches. Also, users do not need to for various documents to confirm their addresses.
Currently, there are nearly 850,000 customers are using the AIB Mobile Banking App, an increase of 20% year-on-year.
In order to open the new current accounts, the users need to download the AIB Mobile App, submit their email address and mobile number as well as their EEA passport.
The service is available from 7am to 11pm seven days a week, the bank said.
Upon completing these steps, the users need to start a video call to agent who will validate their identity. This is done with a passport.
Subsequently, the customer receives a letter in the post with a unique code. This is then used to login.
Once verification is complete, the current account is fully activated and a debit card and PIN is automatically sent.
The Irish lender’s head of digital channel development Sean Jevens said: “The AIB Mobile Banking App has proved hugely popular with our customers.
“With over 300 million customer visits in 2017, it has become the key channel for customers to manage their finances, to transact or purchase new products.
“We saw a real demand to also bring this convenience and flexibility to the account opening process for new customers.
“This new feature means customers won’t need to go to a branch, make a call, find, copy or post documents when opening their account. ”
