The industry’s overall hiring increased by 0.68% in October 2021 when compared with September 2021.

Out of the banking and payments industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 15.4% share in October 2021, recording an increase of 1.09% over the last three-month average share.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 51.47% in October 2021, registering a 59.09% flat growth over the previous month.

2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed a 22.3% share, an increase of 1.11% over the previous month.

3) Database and Network Administrators and Architects held a share of 13.48%, registering a 22.22% rise from September 2021.

4) Computer and Information Analysts captured a share of 11.52%, up 74.07% over the previous month.

Top five banking and payments companies in South Africa’s IT recruitment activity in October 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 35.83% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of South Africa’s banking and payments industry during October 2021 over September 2021.

Sanlam posted 97 IT jobs in October 2021 and registered a drop of 16.38% over the previous month, followed by FirstRand with 90 jobs and an 83.67% growth. Nedbank Group with 50 IT jobs and Discovery with 47 jobs, recorded a 316.67% flat growth and a 7.84% decrease, respectively, while Standard Bank Group recorded an increase of 250% with 42 job postings during October 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in October 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 56.37%, up by 19.79% from September 2021. Mid Level positions with a 36.52% share, registered an increase of 75.29% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 6.86% share, up 21.74% over September 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 0.25%, recording a month-on-month flat growth.
