The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 8.78% in September 2021 when compared with August 2021.

Out of the banking and payments industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 14.34% share in September 2021, recording a decrease of 0.61% over the last three-month average share.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 44.21% in September 2021, registering a 23.64% decline over the previous month.

2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed a 31.23% share, an increase of 25.35% over the previous month.

3) Database and Network Administrators and Architects held a share of 14.74%, registering a 7.69% rise from August 2021.

4) Computer and Information Analysts captured a share of 8.77%, down 24.24% over the previous month.

Top five banking and payments companies in South Africa’s IT recruitment activity in September 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 3.98% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of South Africa’s banking and payments industry during September 2021 over August 2021.

Sanlam posted 115 IT jobs in September 2021 and registered a rise of 32.18% over the previous month, followed by Discovery with 51 jobs and a 13.33% growth. FirstRand with 47 IT jobs and Absa Group with 16 jobs, recorded a 4.08% decline and a 52.94% decrease, respectively, while Standard Bank Group recorded a decline of 66.67% with 12 job postings during September 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in September 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 63.86%, down by 16.51% from August 2021. Mid Level positions with a 28.07% share, registered a decline of 11.11% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with an 8.07% share, up 187.5% over August 2021.
