The US financial services industry saw a rise of 34.7% in overall deal activity during March 2019, when compared with the last 12-month average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 132 deals worth $49.29bn were announced in March 2019, compared to the 12-month average of 98 deals.

M&A was the leading category in the month in terms of volume with 75 deals which accounted for 56.8% of all deals.

In second place was venture financing with 51 deals, followed by private equity with six transactions, respectively accounting for 38.6% and 4.6% of overall deal activity in the country’s financial services industry during the month.

In terms of value of deals, M&A was the leading deal category in the US financial services industry with total deals worth $47.77bn, while private equity and venture financing deals totalled $763.9m and $760m, respectively.

The top five financial services industry deals accounted for 98.3% of the overall value during March 2019.

The combined value of the top five financial services industry deals stood at $48.46bn, against the overall value of $49.29bn recorded for the month. The top announced US financial services industry deal tracked by GlobalData in March 2019 was $43bn merger of Fidelity National Information Services and Worldpay.

In second place was the $4.7bn acquisition of Oaktree Capital Management by Brookfield Asset Management and in third place was Abu Dhabi Investment Authority and Thomas H. Lee Family’s $650m private equity deal with AGL Credit Management.

The $60m private equity deal with Tammac by LL Funds and The Cynosure Group’s private equity deal with Steward Partners Global Advisory for $50m held fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
