A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US11886750B2) discloses a data processing system designed to work in conjunction with a host compute system. The system includes a router module with a host interface and a node interface, connected to multiple parallel first tier compute nodes. Each compute node consists of a communications link, a data store, a programmable logic component, a node memory, a data mover component, and a storage interface component. The storage interface component utilizes multiple communications channels for data transfer between the programmable logic component and the data store.

Furthermore, the data processing system described in the patent utilizes a serial communications protocol for the communications link, an Electronically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory device for the data store, and an Open NAND Flash Interface protocol for the storage interface component. Additionally, the programmable logic component is a field programmable gate array, and a processor manages the operation of the data mover component. The system also allows the host compute system to influence the operation of the compute node, with the router module and compute node integrated into an interface card that is communicatively coupled to the host compute system.
