Australia’s banking and payments industry registered an 8.8% rise in IT hiring activity in August 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 2.23% in August 2021 when compared with July 2021.

Out of the banking and payments industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 15.33% share in August 2021, recording an increase of 1.46% over the last three-month average share.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 49.84% in August 2021, registering an 8.68% flat growth over the previous month.

2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed a 26.91% share, a decrease of 6.11% over the previous month.

3) Database and Network Administrators and Architects held a share of 14.49%, registering a 10.78% decline from July 2021.

4) Computer Support Specialists captured a share of 4.14%, down 3.7% over the previous month.

Top five banking and payments companies in Australia’s IT recruitment activity in August 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 11.71% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Australia’s banking and payments industry during August 2021 over July 2021.

Commonwealth Bank of Australia posted 82 IT jobs in August 2021 and registered a drop of 41.01% over the previous month, followed by National Australia Bank with 60 jobs and a 160.87% growth. Macquarie Group with 59 IT jobs and Australia and New Zealand Banking Group with 54 jobs, recorded a 3.28% decline and a 6.9% decrease, respectively, while Temasek Holdings (Private) recorded a decline of 25% with 39 job postings during August 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in August 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 78.98%, up by 2.27% from July 2021. Mid Level positions with a 16.24% share, registered a decline of 10.53% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 4.14% share, down 23.53% over July 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 0.64%, recording a month-on-month increase of 100%.
