Sberbank has deployed new mobile POS solution from Spire Payments, a provider of point of sale hardware and software solutions, across four Russian cities.

The mobile POS solution was offered by Spire Payments’ official Russian distributor Lanter that will enable the bank to capture transportation and municipal payments in cities – Sankt Petersburg, Kazan, Saratov and Krasnodar.

Spire Payments said that payments will now be accepted via its mobile POS platform, the SPg7, which works on the GPRS mobile network and processes chip and PIN, contactless and NFC transactions including PayPass, payWave, Android Pay, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and Google Pay.

Lanter developed the customised application which fits into the SPg7 and allow processing of specific cards including local transportation and payment programmes.

Spire Payments president Tai-Kei Cheung said: “We are extremely excited with this announcement since this is Spire Payments’ first major project in the Russian Federation. Even more significant is Sberbank decided to utilise our market-leading technology and well-respected in-country partner Lanter over the competition.

“This project is an early indicator our aggressive geographical expansion plans are starting to gain traction and is the first of many announcements in the coming months.”
