The 23rd largest retail bank in the US by
deposits, Huntington, has partnered with MasterCard Worldwide and
upgrading all Huntington customers to a platinum debit MasterCard
card, as part of Huntington’s ‘Fair Play Banking’ philosophy.

Huntington has confirmed it will remain
fee-free for debit card usage for its customers as the next step to
its ‘Fair Play Banking’ philosophy.

This follows
Huntington’s Asterisk-Free Checking accounts that was
introduced in May 2011
, which is free to open, has no monthly
checking maintenance fee, no minimum balance, and no check or debit
card usage requirements.

Huntington’s Asterisk-Free Checking also
includes free ID theft resolution services and 24-Hour grace.

As part of the partnership with MasterCard,
Huntington will also implement the debit and ATM transaction
processing capabilities of MasterCard Integrated Processing
Solutions.

Huntington CEO Steve Steinour said, “We are
excited to partner with MasterCard to give all our customers a much
better, value-enhanced platinum debit card making it part of our
‘Fair Play Banking’ philosophy of bringing superior value to our
customers.”

Steinour added, “This debit card is free to
use and automatically comes with Asterisk-Free Checking. These
enhanced features will be very beneficial to our customers.”

The conversion of Huntington’s debit portfolio
to MasterCard will include the nearly 1.5m consumer and business
debit cards issued by the bank.

Huntington customers began receiving their new
debit MasterCard cards in early October.

All current account customers are expected to
have the new debit cards in by 1 November.

daily financial activities.”

Huntington’s conversion to MasterCard will be
supported by a multi-channel customer communication plan including
email, letters and online messaging.

Ohio- headquartered Huntington has
deposits worth $41.4bn and operates 696 branches

also has a 1,300-unit strong ATM network.
