US Bank has announced it will offer voice control technology to FlexPerks Travel Rewards Visa Signature customers who use the FlexPerks mobile app. Employees of the bank are said to be testing the feature this week.

The technology called Nina Mobile, was designed by digital speech and imaging tools provider, Nuance, and is similar to the Siri iOS application. The software offers speech recognition, Text-to-Speech (TTS), voice biometrics, and Natural Language Understanding (NLU). Users will be able to interact with this virtual assistant using their voice to view account balances, search transactions and make payments.

Executive vice president and general manager of the Nuance Enterprise Division, Robet Weideman, said: "We’re seeing a fundamental shift in how consumers choose to engage in customer service, as the demand for interactive self-service options continues to grow, and Nuance and Nina are at the forefront of this evolution with the virtual assistant."

In August 2012, USAA announced it intended to launch voice commands powered by Nuance to its 2.5mn mobile customers, and earlier this month released My Mobile Assistant.
